Big Grin Introduce yourself
Posted by: TheRetroDev - 11-02-2021, 12:59 AM - Forum: General Discussions - Replies (5)

Introduce yourself here! Tell everyone a bit about yourself and so on. I will naturally start

So I am The Retro Dev and I have a rather large passion for older machines. Tons of reasons for this to many to list here. Aside from retro machines I enjoy cigars, bourbon and programming.

Heart USEFUL RESOURCES
Posted by: TheRetroDev - 11-02-2021, 12:00 AM - Forum: The Retro Devs Musings - No Replies

Below is a selection of useful resources I've been bookmarking that may be of some use to you. I'll update this as I go. Feel free to submit your own contributions.

Bombjack
Very useful site FULL of old books, cd material. Really a very useful site archiving books out of print longer than I've been alive. Everything from the Commodore VIC-20, ZX Spectrum, MS-DOS, Turbo Pascal.. If it's old and retro this site probably has it!

WinWorld
Nice collection old abandonware software. A lot is for DOS but they have plenty of other software for other computers as well.

DOS Haven
Great site for DOS lovers. Full of libraries, tools, software and games.

PCjs Machines
Has web emulators and books related to DOS.

Heart VINTAGE DEVS: PLEASE READ
Posted by: TheRetroDev - 11-01-2021, 11:53 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

We have a forum category here called Vintage Devs this forum exists in order to provide vintage dev makers a forum for support, sharing their demo's/shareware, having a forum for support etc. Best of all you are already in a community of people very likely to be interested in your game. I have no plans at this time to provide selling of software/games. Only hosting shareware and freeware. As well as providing your very own forum.

Things I will provide:

  • Hosting of your shareware/freeware software.
  • Your own forum page where you are the moderator and have control over it.
  • Page dedicated to you on the main site customized to your liking.

Things I won't provide:
  • Handling selling of your software.
  • Publishing of your software.

Even if you don't want your own dedicated forum page I do hope you let us all know about your game or software. I'll definitely make a dedicated space on the main site as I plan to do for several developers.

Bug FEEDBACK: PLEASE READ
Posted by: TheRetroDev - 11-01-2021, 11:35 PM - Forum: Feedback - No Replies

First off as this forum is named this area is only for giving feedback on things related to The Retro Dev site, forum, BBS or other things connected to it. So please don't post anything else here. I will update this page here as needed. Definitely once the forum and site are "done". I'll need to tweak this a smidge.

Website:
The website is definitely still very much a WIP. I have quite a lot of content done but not uploaded. For example I completely redid the main page and added all of the social stuff. I'll launch that tomorrow but probably with everything but the forum link disabled. However if you find any typo's, other error's or have suggestions please post them. I need your feedback in order to make this the best resource for retro development / gaming.

Forum:
The forum is mostly done theme wise. There is still a few things to fix like the fact this blasted editor is still white even though I have modified all of the files properly Smile.. No idea why it does but eurgh it does. Anyhow feel free to offer up suggestions and post and let me know if you find any area's that are broken. I may not know of them so don't be shy. The other thing is if you have a forum category area for a retro machine or whatever really. Post it with the title CATEGORY SUGGESTION. Doesn't have to be bold though Tongue.

Retro Machine in the profile field. If you have a machine that you would like added. Please respond here or make a new post and I will add it straight away and respond when it's been added.

BBS:
Not launched yet will update when it is
